BUCERÍAS CULTURAL TOUR

Explore tucked-away neighborhoods to engage with families of local artisans in their homes and workshops. Through translated conversations, develop deeper insights into the livelihoods of these artisans, and experience the different indigenous cultures. The tour finishes with a family-made Mexican meal.

New in 2023: we are offering two different versions of this tour. On Tuesdays, we will visit a Zapotec weaver, a Nahua woodcarver, and then enjoy a homemade meal. On Thursdays, our tour will focus on outstanding female entrepreneurs, visiting a Wixárika beadworker, a Tzotzil woolworker, also followed by a homemade meal. Of course, since we visit families in their homes, these itineraries are subject to change.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve already been on a tour. How can I make sure to see different families this time?

As we celebrate our 10th year, we are delighted to welcome back many repeat guests. While we are not able to customize the tour experiences in the way that we used to for our repeat guests, we now publish details about the specific artisans we will visit on any given tour. This season, we also launched the Gifts of the Earth Tour. Please see the calendar at the bottom of this page for details about who we are visiting on any given date.

How much walking does the tour entail?

An air-conditioned van is provided as transportation for the group during our tours so there is minimal walking. Our tours are fit for people of all ages and activity levels, and can be customized to meet most physical restrictions. Should you require special assistance, please contact us.

Can you pick me up from my hotel?

The transportation during our tours is only to and from our meeting point in Bucerías. We are currently unable to do pick-ups and drop-offs at hotels or other accommodations.

Can I pay in cash?

Yes you can! We ask that you please notify our team (info@humanconnections.org) if you’d like to pay in cash. We accept US dollars or pesos considering the exchange rate of the day of payment.

Is this tour a good fit for families?

Yes. Since we visit families, it’s an enriching experience for families of travelers, as shared values and experiences are often discussed. However, this tour is a conversation-based tour and so it's ideal for children old enough to enjoy a true story. We recommend this tour for children aged 12 or older. Our Gifts of the Earth Tour route is a better fit for younger kids. See our TripAdvisor page for feedback from families.

I have a dietary restriction, can I still eat on the tour?

Yes, just make sure to let us know in your reservation your dietary needs or restrictions, and we will notify our partners beforehand to make sure you still get to enjoy a delicious meal.

Can I bring donations?

Human Connections does not accept in-kind donations for the families we visit during Cultural Day Tours. Our tours are meant to be educational, create conversation, and financially and emotionally empower the families with whom we work. We hope you will leave with new ideas about charity, need, and responsible travel.

That said, we collaborate with some incredible local organizations that, among other things, ethically channel in-kind donations to local people. Human Connections is more than happy to accept your in-kind donations in our Bucerías office and bring them to these partners, which include Entreamigos and Ahora es Tiempo de Dar. We also encourage you to visit these organizations directly.

Can I buy a gift card to give a tour to someone else?

Yes! Click here to purchase gift cards for our tours.
